Fun Facts: Mushroom Man was written during the Covid pandemic. The song started from a dark, ominous piece of music J wrote with industrial percussion and a Kyoto. The vocals were recorded in my master bedroom closet at a pace of about two bars at a time because I just couldn’t breathe. We had waited decades to write a song and I was desperate to finish before Covid finished me. About halfway through the process, I was feeling better and I though no one is ever going to play this, it’s to dark. The next thing I know, J turned it into a disco and it was party on.

Being the first song, I was going to be the vocalist on, I was trying to find my voice. You know you never sound the same on Memorex as you do in your head. I was auditioning different Pop singers of the past, throwing accents, moving the voice forward and back, from the chest to whatever head voice I could get on a given day. Little did I know J was going to keep them all, putting all the little voices in my head into one song. You have to be careful what you share with a producer because at that point it is all fair game. With J’s awesome producing skills and 100 closet takes, Mushroom Man became our first single.

The Mushroom Man character, Lava Lamp Lettering and Single cover art were all created by my daughter, M. The leg model was my other daughter K.
